The Keystone School to Offer Postsecondary Career Education Program

Online Keystone Career Connect Will Initially Offer Three Career Pathways

HERNDON, Va.

HERNDON, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– As the need for skilled workers in today’s high-demand occupations increases, The Keystone School, an accredited private online school for students nationwide, has launched Keystone Career Connect, a career education program for adults.

Georgetown University predicts that by 2020, 65 percent of all jobs in the United States will require postsecondary education and training beyond high school.

Keystone Career Connect is available to adults 19 and older who have their high school diploma or GED, or in conjunction with Keystone’s adult learner high school completion program. The program’s goal is to fill the gap that exists between high school completion and readiness for employment or college success for adult learners.

Keystone Career Connect initially will offer three career pathways: Information and Support Services, Medical Billing and Coding, and Medical Transcription. In addition to the pathways, which are comprised of six courses each, students will receive personal and professional skills training tailored to what each student needs in his or her life to ensure readiness for employment.

“Keystone Career Connect is focused on what our students will do after they complete the program,” said Elizabeth Jones, deputy head of school for adult learning at The Keystone School. “Our goal is for our students to be prepared to take exams for nationally recognized certifications, find a job or continue on to more advanced training or schooling. Online learning with Keystone is especially suited to adult learners who don’t want to wait for a ‘new session’ to begin and seek on-demand learning.”

The Information and Support Services pathway prepares students to test and evaluate computer network systems, set up or repair computer equipment and related devices, and help customers solve computer-related problems. A career as a computer technician, systems support specialist, computer engineer or network administrator could await a student following completion of the pathway and certification exam.

The Medical Billing and Coding pathway prepares students for careers in healthcare related to record keeping, insurance coding and patient medical histories, with potential career opportunities available in hospitals, physicians’ offices, surgery centers, nursing homes and dental offices. Students will be prepared to take the Billing and Coding Specialist certification exam through the National Health Career Association.

Students in the Medical Transcription pathway are also prepared for careers in the healthcare field. Medical transcriptionists listen to records of healthcare workers and convert them into written reports. They interpret medical terminology and abbreviations in preparing patients’ medical histories and other documents. Students will be prepared to take the Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist certification exam through the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity.

Students can finish the Keystone Career Connect program in 12 months, but flexibility is built in for students to finish quicker or for those who need more time.

The Keystone School begins accepting enrollments for the Keystone Career Connect pathways today. The program cost of $995 includes the fee for the certification exam. Adults without a high school diploma are encouraged to contact Keystone about high school diploma completion options and receive a future 20% discount on a Keystone Career Connect pathway.
