ASHBURN, Va. (7News) — A young Alexandria figure skater is one step closer to the big stage – the Olympics!
Sofia Bezkorovainaya took her last step by beating more than 250 skaters across the country.
From the moment 11-year-old Bezkorovainaya stepped foot on ice, her coach, Inna Volyanskaya says she was born for it.
“I like how you go so fast, the wind is in your ears and it feels like you're flying" said Bezkorovainaya.
Once just a dream is now closer to becoming a reality.
"I really really wanted to skate and I tried it and loved it” Bezkorovainaya said.
“My goal is to win the Olympics," explainied Bezkorovainaya. “I won the juvenile level."
The Virginia virtual academy student recently winning a national championship scoring a record number ever recorded for the competition.
“I worked really hard towards it” Bezkorovainaya said.
Bezkorovainaya spends five hours a day on ice with her coach Inna and can even complete a triple jump.
“She is always pushing herself, and of course I am always pushing he," said Volyanskaya. "This girl, she loves skating."
The minimum competition age in figure skating is age 15.
