Stride's 2nd Annual National Cook-Off competition took place last week on June 16th and the competition was fierce. But that didn’t stop K12 Private Academy 8th grader Kaiyah Hansen from throwing her hat in the ring.
Balancing a busy schedule is never easy. Between school, surfing lessons, swim practice, and traveling, Kaiyah managed to still bring the heat in Stride’s National Cook-Off competition.
Kaiyah's favorite part about attending school online is the flexibility that it gives her to pursue her passions and extracurricular activities.
“The flexibility has allowed me to pursue my passions in swimming, surfing, and music,” said Kaiyah. “I am able to schedule my day and week around my extracurricular activities and school requirements.”
Kaiyah grew up helping her mom in the kitchen and found out about the Cook-Off through the K12 Private Academy newsletter.
“I decided to enter because I enjoy cooking,” Kaiyah said when explaining why she decided to enter the competition. “I find myself cooking quite often because I love to explore ways to eat nutritious food to fuel my body for my sports.”
Kaiyah spoke with Jenny D. from KOSI 101.1 radio to talk about her love for cooking, the dish she plans to make, and how she has been preparing for the final round of the competition. You can listen to the interview here.
