If you’re the kind of student who always leads the class, a career in Education & Training might be for you. Learn how to make it happen here.
You've always known you were destined to be the one leading the class, not the one following along. The fact that you're so passionate about your favorite subject—and love helping others understand it—makes you the perfect candidate for a career in Education and Training.
At Destinations Career Academy, you can learn from the experts so that you can become one, too. With career readiness education (CRE), discover your true passion and develop skills in high-demand jobs while gaining confidence, experience, and industry-recognized certifications along the way*. Whether you want to be a College Professor or a Speech-Language Pathologist, your future starts here.
Preparing for success
Just like traditional high schools, you'll learn from state-certified teachers and earn a diploma at graduation. So, what makes our CRE program so unique? It's the personalized education experience and support from:
- Dedicated teachers who make sure you learn in a way that works for you and track your academic progress.
- School counselors who work with you to set goals that will get you another step closer to earning your high school diploma.
- Career counselors who help you choose the right classes and provide support in obtaining internships.
In addition to a personal support squad, our Strong Start onboarding program helps you start your first day with confidence and momentum. Meet your homeroom teacher and learn how to navigate Class Connect sessions. During your first year, you'll take an explorations course, which will give you more information on each career field and provide an inside look at life on the job.
Learning new skills
Do you love working with kids? Or, do you love helping your friends study for tests? Then our career-focused electives—like psychology and early childhood education—are made for you. They'll even give you a head start on courses required in the education field. This sample course progression chart shows you what the journey might look like if you start the Education and Training pathway in your freshman year. Your course progression will need to be accelerated if you begin a career pathway in your sophomore year or later.

Speaking of courses, we get it—not everyone thrives in a class setting. That's why you'll love classes like computer-based literacy that use project-based learning. This means you'll solve real-world problems alongside your peers, just like you would on the job. Want to learn even more? You can also enroll in college-level classes or tuition-free summer programs*. With Destinations, classes aren't just a requirement on your journey to graduation—they're another opportunity to be the best candidate for your dream career.
Our career-focused electives like Psychology and Early Childhood Education are made for you. They'll even give you a head start on courses required in the healthcare field.
Earning the certifications
Industry-recognized certifications are like another tool in your toolbox. They might not be required for the project, but they could help you get the job done better than the other student applying for the position. Just like a wrench does a better job of fastening a bolt than your fingers would, certifications show employers that you're more equipped for the role. Depending on your school, you can prep for*:
- ACT National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC)
- NOCTI Early Childhood Education and Care–Basic (Job Ready)
- NOCTI Early Childhood Education and Care–Advanced (Job Ready)
While Destinations does not facilitate these exams, our courses can help you prepare to take them during or after high school.
Hearing from professionals
On the pathway to Education and Training, every class is an opportunity to learn from the pros—your very own teachers. That said, they can also use a platform called Nepris to bring current Education and Training professionals to your virtual classroom.
If you think that's exciting, just wait until the summer when Job Shadow Week rolls around. Think of this five-day program as your chance to test drive the car of your dreams, but in this case, it's your ideal career. Depending on the industry speaker, you may be able to learn about:
- Designing a class curriculum
- Required classes for specific careers
- Staying organized and effectively managing your time
- Classroom tools to promote interactive learning and collaboration
Putting knowledge into practice
After your first few classes at Destinations, it might be time for the student to become the master (we're talking about you). This means you can join a teacher at the front of the room during an internship or apprenticeship*. Depending on your dream career, you can look for experiences working alongside:
- High School Teachers
- Childcare Workers
- Special Education Teachers
- College Professors
- Speech–Language Pathologists
With Tallo, a web-based networking platform, you can create an online portfolio, showcase your skills, and find internship opportunities. While they're not guaranteed, and you must secure them on your own, your career counselor can provide support in obtaining these opportunities.
Having fun along the way
Even though Destinations is an online high school, you can still participate in the same (if not more) extracurricular activities of a traditional school.
You can also join the sports team at your local high school or start a career club of your own based on your interests—like a film club, book club, or skateboarding club. Whatever it is, Destinations gives you the chance to gather with students just like you, regardless of which pathway you're on.
