There Are Multiple Benefits of Online School for Learning and Early Career Prep
By Emily Zarmanian, Stride Student Advisor
Hi, I’m Emily, and I attend Insight PA Online School. I would like to say, first off, that I’ve had nothing but a positive experience with online school, in general. It benefits me in multiple aspects of my life. While online school is not the typical teen experience with high school, I do not regret a single thing. I’ve been doing online school since my freshman year, and I’ve loved every second of it.
There are multiple benefits of doing online school, so let’s take a deeper look at it. With having ADHD, and not being able to focus in a regular classroom, online school has helped by my being able to be in my own space without distractions. Also, it has taught me the responsibility of doing my work on my own, and attending classes on my own. I feel like not only does this help me for school, but in real life, too. Another benefit is that I don’t have to worry about bullies. Since it’s bullying awareness month, I’d like to briefly share a point of view from my story, in regards to that life experience.
Bullying is a huge issue, and once I switched over to online school, all of my bullies stopped harassing me. That took a giant burden off my shoulders, as it consumes a lot of time and energy each day to deal with situations such as these. Removing the issue of bullying was a huge relief, and has since allowed me to direct my time and attention to better things.
Continuing on with the benefits of online school, I would like to also state that I’ve had more opportunities with online school than with public school. My school provides activities, Zooms, and classes all with opportunities to grow and learn together. Thanks to online school, I have figured out what I want to be when I’m older, and how to pragmatically achieve those goals. Online school has helped me grow as a person in so many different aspects. Another benefit is in going about doing the schoolwork itself. If you’re anything like me, you like to bounce around when doing work and not stick to one thing… with online school I can do that! For example, if I don’t want to do English at that moment, I can do my Math work instead, and go back to my English work later.
Also with online school, I can contact my teacher with an email whenever I’d like, making communication very easy and efficient. Overall, every time I talk about online school, it’s always positive and never negative. I would never take back my decision of doing online school, not for anything!
