Your online presence is incredibly important when applying for jobs. Be sure that your social media makes you seem hirable. Here’s how!
These days, your online presence can be just as important as your resume or work experience. When considering candidates for jobs, roughly 70% of employers check their candidates’ social media accounts. Since it can make or break you, you want to be sure that your social media makes you seem hirable. Here are three simple principles to keep in mind as you post.
1. Post appropriate content
It goes without saying but be sure that your content is appropriate in every sense of the word. If you wouldn't show it to your grandmother, it probably shouldn't be on your platforms. Employers may look at your social media before meeting you, so be sure that it shows the best version.
2. Highlight your strengths
Social media is a great tool to show off your talents, interests, and achievements. Use your platform to communicate the traits that may not shine on your resume. Almost every employer is interested in candidates' communication skills, and your social media is a perfect place to demonstrate them. Suppose you want to take it to the next level. In that case, you could even use your social media as a portfolio of your work by updating your Tallo account or creating an Instagram account dedicated to showing off your achievements.
3. Keep it up to date
Whether it be your Tallo, LinkedIn, Instagram, or Twitter, be sure that your social media is up to date. Most employers expect you to have an online presence and may even disqualify you for a job if you don't. A single, outdated photo doesn't cut it these days! While you don't need to update your followers on your every thought, you should mark any significant changes in your life with a post.
