Let's be honest. We've all experienced that dreaded moment when a teacher asks for an assignment and you simply don't have it. You may have pretended to rifle through your backpack for a few minutes or maybe even pulled out the classic "my dog ate my homework" line, but deep down, you know you just forgot to do it. Every once in a while, we all slip up and forget to do something. However, if you stay organized, you can make these slip-ups less frequent.
Whether you go to college or go straight into the workforce, being organized is one of the most important skills you will need in whatever you pursue after high school. Unfortunately, it can also be incredibly challenging to learn organizational skills. If you struggle to get your work in on time or keep track of your assignments, here are three tips that may help you.
1. Set a schedule and stick to it
Whether you use a planner, Google Calendar, or anything in between, be sure to keep a detailed schedule of when your assignments are due and when you plan to complete them. Having a visual representation of your obligations will remind you that you must pace yourself to avoid being overwhelmed or missing deadlines.
2. Plan ahead
If you are always focused on the present moment, you may lose sight of upcoming assignments requiring your attention. Be sure to take stock of what is coming up at least once a week so that you're never surprised at the last moment.
3. Get into a routine
Getting into a daily routine is a great way to keep yourself organized. If you get into good habits, such as checking your planner every day at the same time or completing your homework before you go on your phone, you are much more likely to be able to stay on top of your obligations.
