Increase Your Earning Potential

Perspectives | Aug 15, 2020

Your education shouldn’t stop in the classroom. Teach yourself skills outside of school to increase your future earning potential.

These days, going to college isn't the only way to have a successful career. However, this doesn't mean that your education should stop in your high school classroom. There are tons of skills you can teach yourself outside of school to increase your future earning potential. If you want to get a head start, here are a few ideas of skills that could make you valuable to future employers.

1. Social Media

As internet natives, most of Gen-Z has no difficulty navigating social media. We often forget that social media can be a challenge to older generations. Paying attention to how businesses successfully use social media could give you insights to help a future employer run their social media. Taking an online social media marketing course could be a great way to assure prospective employers that you have these skills.

2. Coding

There's no doubt that the world is becoming increasingly digital. In this new world, coding, or at least some degree of familiarity with coding languages, may be essential to many jobs. Even if it isn't vital, employers may be interested in job candidates who can help them troubleshoot their computer problems for free! If you ar committed to learning, a site like CodeAcademy can help you get started.

3. World Languages

The value of being able to speak another language cannot be understated. If you live in a part of the country where there are large Spanish- or French-speaking populations, learning a second language may make you eligible for jobs that would be unattainable otherwise. Using a service like Duolingo consistently will make learning a new language easy.
