How to Start Learning to Code

Computers are the future. There's no doubt about it.

With the world becoming increasingly digital, computer science is becoming a more stable and lucrative field. These days, knowing how to code a website can get you in the door at many businesses. And, lucky for us, learning how to code isn't as difficult as we may think. In fact, there are tons of online resources that allow you to invest in your future for a relatively low price. If you are interested in computer science or information technology and have a bit of free time on your hands, you have no reason not to start learning how to code! Here's a little guidance on how to start.

1. Choose a language

Unfortunately, there is no universal coding language. In fact, there are over 700 different coding languages, and each one will give you the skills to create something different. If you want to code apps, Swift might be a good fit for you; if you'd like to make video games, you may want to give C# a try. CSS and HTML are excellent for beginners, but there are pros and cons to each language. Here's a great infographic to provide you with more info on which language to choose!

2. Find a course

As a beginner, you probably want to start with a free online course to see if you enjoy coding. If you find that you have a knack for coding, you may want to invest in some more formal courses later. However, to start, there are several great online resources such as Codecademy and Udemy that can give you a solid foundation in programming.

3. Stick with it

Like any learned skill, coding will take a while to master. However, if you are disciplined and dedicated, you can give yourself incredibly valuable skills. There will probably be a learning curve as you begin to digest your first coding language, but your second or third will come far more easily!
