Success Coaches Are Dedicated To Helping Students With Their Life Goals During And After High School

By Darius Harris, Stride Career Prep Success Coach

The concept of having a Success Coach for teenagers is innovative, and it is something most high schools don’t offer. That said, I am not surprised that most parents, and students, don’t know what success coaching is, or the many benefits that can come with it.

So, what is a Success Coach? A Success Coach is a professional who has a diverse background in career coaching, youth development, career services, entrepreneurship, and many other areas that can be of benefit to a high school student. Success Coaches are dedicated to helping students achieve success, not only in their careers, but in life, as well. Below you will find some of the benefits of success coaching that may (or may not) surprise you.

Career Direction And Self-Awareness From Success Coaching For Teens

Many of the students that success coaches work with don’t have clear direction related to what they want to do after high school. This is normal, since most teenagers are still trying to learn more about themselves and are usually focused on schoolwork. There are often several other responsibilities students have, too. Success Coaches work one-on-one with each student, to help them gain self-awareness related to their natural abilities, values, and interests. And, coaches use many different methods. Students often comment after working with a Success Coach about how they feel so much peace and confidence, having a better understanding of who they are and a clearer direction for after graduation. Even when students have an idea of what they want to do after high school, they may not know the small steps in between that are needed to reach their goals. A Success Coach can help with this process.

The Success Coach As An Unbiased Partner

Nearly all of the students that Success Coaches work with have great relationships with their parents and/or learning coaches. However, sometimes parents are not able to provide an unbiased opinion or advice to their children, because they have their own ideas about what the kid should be doing. Students are often very appreciative to have an unbiased partner, who can give them advice and listen to their opinions and ideas about their future plans. The students don’t feel pressure to adhere to their parents plans for them, and they know that the Success Coach will partner with them in achieving success… even if they choose non-traditional pathways like trade school, entrepreneurship, and certification programs.

Job Searches And Internship Assistance With Success Coaching For Teens

Many students want to meet people who work in their fields of interest, or get a chance to be in those environments via an internship or part-time job. Some students want help with finding any kind of job to gain work experience, and to learn more about themselves and what they like/don’t like. Success Coaches have years of experience working with a diverse population in job search strategies, interview preparation, networking, and resume writing. They have helped many students to obtain their first experiential opportunities and secure valuable Career Mentors.

Financial Aid And College Assistance Through Success Coaching

As I mentioned above, Success Coaches have a varied background. Many people may not know that some of the Success Coaches have backgrounds in higher education and financial aid. So, students are sometimes shocked at the amount of knowledge that Coaches have related to financial aid, college admissions applications, and finding scholarships. Students should utilize their counselors and the primary source of this kind of information, but they should also know that Success Coaches can help with this, as well.
