How School Supports My Success as a National-Level Equestrian
By Ella Kelly, Student at Insight School of Kansas
My online school gave me the flexibility to succeed at the National level for Horse Showing.
When I first told my mother I wanted to ride horses, I was four years old. She was skeptical. “Don’t you want to play soccer? How about ballet?” she asked.
But for two years I persisted, until at last, at age 6, my mother gave in. I have been riding horses ever since.
As a two-year qualifier for the prestigious National Horse Show in Lexington, KY, I consider myself very lucky to have found a way to balance my busy schedule with what is my family’s first priority: my education.
I am currently finishing my senior year at Insight School of Kansas (ISKS). In the three years that I have been enrolled, I have achieved more than I could have ever imagined on horseback and in the classroom.
Some of my accomplishments include earning the Champion title at the Retired Racehorse Project for Hunter and Jumper Teams, winning 4th place at the Retired Racehorse Project for junior riders and being ranked 23rd best overall in the Show Jumping category, against professionals and adult amateurs alike. I was also selected by the United States Equestrian Federation to be on the cover of their 2022 catalog! None of this would have been possible without the support of my family and my teachers at ISKS.
Alongside everything I do with my horses, I dedicate my mornings and afternoons to my schoolwork. My teachers support me when I’m traveling for horse shows, maintaining my horses, and completing the many chores they require. With the help of my teachers, I have the tools I need to find balance along the way.
Education is my top priority. Enrolling in online school has simplified the equation for me to travel across the country and plan for my future. I have been able to develop my equestrian career and make friends with people all over the country while continuing to focus on my studies – a balance I would have been unable to achieve without ISKS.
For those inspired to pursue their passions, consider online school and the doors it can open. I am excited to see what my future holds—in the equestrian world and beyond.
