Learn About Key Disruptive Skills In Business, For Jobs Without A Bachelor’s Degree

These Rare And Important Skills Can Help You Quickly Launch Your Business Career

Business skills are applicable across a wide variety of professional sectors, and skills known in the business and technology career fields as “disruptive” are in demand and growing fast. Disruptive skills are by definition rare, emerging, and important for creating future-ready solutions for companies. And, for those very reasons, employers seek out candidates who have those skills in business. In fact, recent reports have shown that people with a knowledge-base and career background in disruptive skills, which helps a company complete projects vital to their future, are over-seen for other high-level positions, even when compared to candidates with prior management experience.

Having key disruptive skills present on your resume can help you to stand out from other job applicants, and learning these skills in career prep can help you get started on a path in business, without needing a Bachelor’s degree. These skills can also aid you in attaining leadership positions, while you do management training on the job.

Our research partner, Emsi Burning Glass, has compiled data to pinpoint the top disruptive skills in the business field, for those seeking a strong career start that is also future-ready. Let’s take a look at what the data reveals:

As you can see, there are four key disruptive skill sets currently in high demand, in the large professional field of business. With targeted career prep learning during high school, and the benefits of focusing on these rare and important skill sets, jobs are typically available for those looking to start their business careers right away. So, let’s take a closer look at each of the disruptive skills on this list.

Salesforce: This is a large and highly-utilized customer relationship management (CRM) platform. Salesforce is often used in business endeavors because it can help marketing, sales, commerce, service, and IT teams work as one cohesive unit, from anywhere. This not only boosts the experience and efficiency of working teams, but its use is also motivated by a positive experience on the consumer end. Familiarity with Salesforce is a disruptive skill that you will definitely want to consider focusing on during career prep efforts and your ongoing education.

Data Analysis:  All businesses rely on data to drive their next moves, and to be as future-ready as possible. It’s one thing to have access to relevant data, it’s quite another thing to be able to parse it out, and use the data for beneficial positioning. Job candidates who have an education in, and understanding of, data analysis are in demand. To nutshell the disruptive skill of data analysis, it is essentially the process of collecting and organizing data, in order to draw helpful conclusions from it. The main purpose of data analysis is to find meaning in the data, so that the derived knowledge can be used to make informed decisions. If you enjoy problem-solving and economic forecasting, you may want to look into learning this disruptive skill set a bit more, while engaged in career prep and development efforts.

Software as a Service (SaaS): Cloud-based technology is becoming more and more present in our day-to-day lives. And, software as a service is heavily reliant on cloud-based technology (and vice-versa) because it is a way of delivering applications over the internet. Common examples we all tend to use daily are email, online calendars, and office tools (such as Microsoft Office 365). SaaS provides a complete software solution, and because of this it is also big in the professional business field, as are the needs of companies to have people on staff with skill sets in this area.

Digital Marketing: In the broadest sense, digital marketing refers to advertising efforts and campaigns delivered through digital channels such as search engines, websites, social media, email, blogs, mobile apps, and more. With consumer bases growing online, businesses understand the importance of digital marketing now more than ever. Having an educational focus of digital marketing on your resume, with or without on-the-job experience, is a sure way to stand out from the crowd, and to demonstrate quickly to potential employers your immediate value upon hire.
