Business Ideas For High School Students

High School Is The Perfect Time To Launch Your First Business Venture

By Jamoul Celey, Stride Success Coach

Starting a business in high school is not as complicated as it may sound. Business ideas for high school students are as plentiful as there are students in high school! The same focus that it takes to participate in a class project, or for playing your favorite video game, is all that you will need to come up with a solid business idea.

What is a solid business idea anyway? I’m glad you asked! A ‘business’ is just a fancy word that means to solve a problem, fulfill a need, or provide a good or a service in exchange for resources. An idea is a thought that is slowed down to a speed that connects problems and solutions… supply and need… customers and goods/services.

The good news is that your business idea is likely already inside you, or around you. It takes focus and slowing yourself down long enough to be present to recognize the idea, however.

Outside the U.S.?

For example: I know an 8th grader who despised their chore of taking the trash out enough to realize they were not alone in that feeling. So, instead ignoring the thought, they created flyers, went door to door with them, and offered to do that same task for their neighbors in exchange for a fee for the service. Just like that, a business is born…idea to execution.

Now, if a business idea can come from an undesired task like the above example, imagine if focus was applied to something that you like, love, or have in common with a several other people. You could come up with an idea today and go into business tomorrow.

Here are some awesome business ideas for high school students:

·       Babysitting/Childcare

·       Selling Homemade Goods and/or baked goods

·       Pet care and house sitting

·       YouTube video channels

·       Seasonal chores and yard work

·       Tutoring and mentoring

·       Blogging and freelance writing

·       Podcasting

Despite how good the list is above, remember that ideas are contagious. It does not matter how unique your idea is, or how popular it is, if it connects problems and solutions, supply and need. The reason why is because businesses are designed to bring individuals together, to satisfy wants and needs, which will always resonate among the masses.

As a high school student, you are exposed to dozens business ideas per the conversations, thought exchanges, and interactions that you have with your peers every day. By virtue of being young, you are on the cutting edge of innovation, and the next big thing, due to not being distracted by the noise of being an adult.

Your perspective is pure, your ideas are good enough, and your business idea is worth it. Everything else is timing, so give it a try!
