A Middle Schooler Explores Careers in Architecture

Lynda : Up until Geoffrey was in first-grade, we had been doing homeschool, and I decided that he needed something a little bit more intense, something that really would cater to his needs. And so I researched some different options and came across Destinations. And I love the idea of the career academy to focus on, you know, future outlook for his career interest.

And it was so interesting scrolling through all of the different career pathways because there's a lot to choose from and really there's so many different choices based on what your interests are. So, you know, if you're interested in business, they've got the business pathway. If you're interest in technology or video, they've got that pathway. So there's a lot of options, and you're not pigeonholed into just English or math or science, because you need those core classes, but you want it to be applicable to today's world. And I think delving into more real life and what career options are out there will give you that with these programs.

Geoffrey: Yeah, one of the classes I take is on Tuesdays, or Mondays and Thursdays, and it's career explorations, so it's not it's not every day but I still . . . well, we did architecture in that class, so that was cool because I want to be in architecture, and we designed our own playground, so that was really fun.

It was a wheelchair, like accessible playground for like all kinds of children, so I did like wheelchair accessible swings, and I did like little hills to make it more abstract. And yeah, I put a little park with trees around it, so there's like benches and stuff that people can sit at.

They do lots of different careers every class. Like they did like doctors and agriculture they did last week,  and I won't be able to make it this week, but this is my last week of classes, but I've had a lot of fun in career explorations.
