Gabriella’s pursing a business pathway. She describes that her business courses have pushed her out of her comfort zone, while still being “extremely fun.” Recalling what she learned in her business class, she says, “I found out about things that I could do that I didn’t know I could do. … [it] has helped me to see things differently.” In fact, exploring entrepreneurship in this course inspired Gabriella’s career goals. With the business tools she learned, she hopes to open a bakery that sells Puerto Rican desserts. YUM!
Beyond inspiring her to pursue this dream, her business courses have also taught Gabriella soft skills that will make her successful after high school. For example, when first tasked with a project-based learning project with her classmates, she was hesitant to step up and lead the group. However, when challenged to do so, she was able to effectively divide the work evenly among her peers and make sure that the project was completed on schedule. Developing these leadership and collaboration skills in high school is preparing her to overcome the challenges of opening her bakery!
On top of leadership and collaboration skills, Gabriella has also gained essential time management skills by attending online school. Each day, she tries to finish as many assignments as possible. She avoids procrastinations because she “feels like it’s important to turn everything in beforehand.” As a result, Gabriella manages taking a heavy course load, including two elective courses and two science courses. Despite taking extra classes, she still finds time for her other passions such as drawing, painting, singing, and reading.
With her soft skills and clear career goals, Gabriella is sure to be successful after high school! We can’t wait to enjoy sweet treats at her bakery one day!
