3 BIG Reasons Why Tutors Are Critical For Education Today

Tutors Improve Learning Outcomes In Students Of All Ages And In All Learning Structures

Students learn best when their individual academic needs are met. This is true for learners of all ages, and in all settings, whether those settings are in a brick-and-mortar construct or online. And, perhaps no other form of learning yields better results than one-on-one instruction sessions. In these types of sessions, individual learners get the tailored support they need to succeed.

No matter what a student may wish to excel at in life, odds are good that they will need a coach and/or tutor to help them reach their goals. Just like professional athletes and business gurus benefit from coaching and mentoring along the way, students benefit from tutors, as they seek to refine their academic skills and depth of subject matter understanding.

There are countless benefits that long-term academic tutoring can bring to eager learners. But, let’s consider three really big reasons why tutors are critical for education today…

#1: Tutors provide flexibility for the individual student’s learning needs and lifestyle parameters.

Students have a lot going on these days – classes, extracurricular activities, chores, events, family responsibilities, friend circles, and even part-time jobs and career prep efforts. This means that schedules fill up quickly, and priorities for the day (and week) can shift all around. Tutors provide flexible session times for learners, meeting both the best scheduling window and the optimal learning window for the student, leading to the best retention and understanding of vital information. And, tutors are also well-equipped to prepare lessons that best meet the student’s own unique learning style (kinesthetic, reading/writing, audio, visual, etc.).

#2: Tutors can help students build their overall self-confidence via better academic outcomes.

Tutoring sessions can help prevent, and even break, today’s pernicious educational cycles of accumulated gaps in learning materials. When students aren’t given all of the attention they need to thrive in the larger classroom environments that are increasingly common, tutoring can bridge these learning gaps before the chasm grows wide enough to cause bad grades and subsequent frustrations. Tutoring can foster the feelings of competence and success, as content is learned and understood, leading to greater classroom achievements.

#3: Tutors greatly reduce the experiences of learning loss for their students.

On average, the typical student today will have a few breaks in learning, in the classroom (both online and brick-and-mortar), throughout the course of the school year – holiday breaks, summer vacation, winter break, spring break, sick days, etc. This can have a noticeable effect on learning retention. Regular tutoring sessions provided to learners during academic breaks, and immediately following sick days, can help prevent skill loss and enhance overall comprehension. Tutoring during breaks can even give learners a head start on mastering skills at the next level of their educational journey!
