Learners

Diagnosed with Asperger syndrome at a young age, Tim struggled in traditional brick-and-mortar school. “He was coming home very upset. He wasn't doing work. He was avoiding things,” said Tim's father. It was time for a new approach. “[Insight School] has probably been the single major factor in helping Tim find his place over the past few years. At this point, he's controlling his own destiny.” Tim graduated high school with straight A's and has college, technical training, and a job as options.

—Tom M., Parent of Insight School of Washington Graduate

Josh understands science better than most 13-year-olds. He won first place at the D.C. STEM Fair in back-to-back years. And he says online learning has helped him: “I'm able to move at a faster pace than what I was at brick-and-mortar school.” But STEM isn't his sole passion. “Lots of people think that I want to be an environmental scientist. That's not my passion. I want to be a child psychologist. I just find that working with children, it just feels good. It feels like I'm doing something good for the world.”

—Joshua M., Friendship Public Charter School Online

"Simply put — I wouldn't be where I am today without [Stride's Galvanize program]. I started my journey with little experience in data science, but, with the help of amazing professors and hard-working students, I emerged from the program within multiple job offers in the field."

—Austin K., Galvanize Data Science Program

“I was successful in the Army for 13 years and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve my country. But I realized that I wanted to do more. Every day at [Stride's Galvanize program] was new, different, challenging, and exciting! The experience really taught me that I could learn and create anything. As the first woman to graduate from the program, I can hope to inspire other women, military spouses, veterans, and minorities to come into the tech space and also be successful.”

—Laura E., Galvanize Software Engineering Program

Districts

“As we have learned more about students and how they learn and being able to meet their needs, we've been really working toward that 21st Century student...being able to offer them different atmospheres, different classroom models to meet their needs. [Stride's K12] Flex Model has allowed us to really look at students and individualize and support them. With this we've been able to reach some of those students that maybe school wasn't their favorite thing.”

—Mindy B., Technology Coach, Hermiston High School, Oregon

“Overall, I think [Stride's] Summit is amazing when it comes to rich curriculum that is easy to use and differentiate for students' needs. I feel like the [Stride K12] curriculum is so rich and broad. [Stride K12] has also done a great job in making sure we're hitting the standards—it's a no brainer; we don't have to think about that.”

—Annie B., English Teacher, District 11—Achieve Online, Colorado

“When you're looking at providing a digital curriculum, or a virtual learning space, you need to work with someone that obviously knows what they're doing, that has the resources, that's committed to the process, and that is known beyond your local little area.”

—Don M., ED.D. Director of Secondary Education, Conestoga Valley School District, Pennsylvania

“Flexible programs provide instructional decision-making where it should be — with the professionals in the classroom. Those who are most responsible for delivery of curriculum and instruction should be the ones to use assessments wisely and make decisions that work best for student learning. If our students don't experience some online learning, including some of the time management that is associated with this method of learning, we will not have prepared them well for college and life.”

—Principal Dr. Alice D., Summit High School Bend-La Pine School District, Oregon

Enterprises

“These days, most front-end and full-stack engineer resumes look the same. We’ve found the only way to really gauge a candidate is by the quality of the code they write. [Stride’s] Hack Reactor grads have their final projects and other work available on GitHub, so it’s easy to get a sense for what type of developer they’re going to be. On top of that, the Hack Reactor program seems to prepare students exceptionally well, they have a good sense of what it’s like to work on a modern web development project.”

—Q&A with Cisco Director of Experience Design Dustin Beltramo and Technical Leader Joe Sutton

“It’s definitely been an evolutionary process working with [my partners], Scott and Ryan. The 13 weeks of [Stride’s Galvanize] program was a great experience. Every day that I sat down with them, we went through pair programming or asked questions. And I always came away enriched — because they see the big picture, they see the possibilities, and they appreciate the possible benefits of, if we do things well, how the world will be better off for what we've done.”

—Kevin H., Co-Founder, Qubify Labs

“We hire people based on their demonstrated skill set — not on any particular degree or certification. [Stride’s] Hack Reactor provides us with great support and consistently delivers a pool of candidates who are exceptionally well prepared for the type of development work our team does.”

—Q&A with Cisco Director of Experience Design Dustin Beltramo and Technical Leader Joe Sutton
